  ["htmlcontent"] => string(5626) "<p class="Lead"><strong>(Hannover, 3 September 2020) On 3 September 2020, KraussMaffei and VGP – a leading project developer for high-quality logistics and commercial real estate – officially laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new production plant for extrusion systems in Laatzen's eastern industrial park located in the Hannover region. According to the time schedule, the 66,500 square meter facility is planned to be completed by the third quarter of 2022. The new address will replace the former KraussMaffei site in Hannover-Kleefeld that did not allow any further expansion.</strong><span style="font-size: 0.8em;"> </span></p>
<p class="Lead" align="left">Today, Lower Saxony's Minister-President Stephan Weil, Laatzen's Mayor Jürgen Köhne, Jan Van Geet, Chairman of the VGP Board of Management, Dr. Michael Ruf, Chief Executive Officer of the KraussMaffei Group, and Dieter Thewes, Chief Operating Officer of KraussMaffei Extrusion GmbH, placed a time capsule into the foundation of a hall column. In the third quarter of 2022, up to 750 employees will be working here at innovative workplaces in order to produce extrusion systems for the plastics and rubber industries.<span style="font-size: 0.8em;"> </span></p>
<p class="Lead"><strong>Special focus on InnovationCenter</strong></p>
<p class="Lead">Ultra-modern premises with impressive office and production areas will be built on the spacious site to combine KraussMaffei's extrusion business activities under a single roof. Special focus is placed on the new InnovationCenter that will be available for challenging and complex preliminary tests under realistic production conditions to customers from the plastics and rubber industries before they actually order a new machine from KraussMaffei. On a floor area of around 10,000 square meters, the InnovationCenter will comprise 20 state-of-the-art machines and lines – from small laboratory facilities up to production-scale machines – to be used for trial purposes. Completion is proceeding according to schedule.<span style="font-size: 0.8em;"> </span></p>
<p class="Lead"><strong>New plants shape innovative image of KraussMaffei</strong></p>
<p class="Lead">“Here in Laatzen and also at our other locations in Germany and around the globe, we are committed to shaping the innovative future KraussMaffei in order to take on and meet the challenges of the 21st century with flying colors. Already in March, we opened our new plant located in JiaXing in China. A couple of weeks ago, we inaugurated the new plant of our Burgsmüller subsidiary in Einbeck. And the construction work for our new headquarters in Munich-Parsdorf has also been started.   ["htmlcontent"] => string(6624) "<p class="Lead" align="left"><strong>(Hanover, June 16, 2020) KraussMaffei's unique EdelweissCompounding technology stands out for excellent recompound quality at high throughput rates of several tonnes per hour. This technology is based on an established process that has been further optimized and extended by the machine engineering company. Highlights of the compounding line are the new proprietary cutter-compactor unit for pre-treating post-consumer waste of any type and the two-stage extrusion system composed of two twin-screw-extruders arranged in series for melt processing and compounding. “The Edelweiss compounding line is now available for customer trials in our R&amp;D centre and convinces not only by its innovative technical features, but also by the turnkey concept,” says Carl-Philip Poepel, Director of Product Management Extrusion Technology at KraussMaffei.</strong></p>
<p class="Informationbildmaterial">KraussMaffei is currently investing to substantially extend its capacities for customer trials and its own testing activities associated with recycling and recompounding processes. For some months now, the R&amp;D centre at the Hanover site has been equipped with the most advanced industrial-scale recompounding system worldwide. The new EdelweissCompounding line is composed of two ZE 65 BluePower twin-screw extruders and designed for a maximum output rate of 2,000 kg/h. While it was common practice in the past to combine a single-screw and a twin-screw extruder for this purpose, the use of two twin-screw extruders is a real novelty. The benefits of this solution speak for themselves: high degassing capacities, efficient odour removal, ideal dispersive and dispersing mixing effect, gentle melt treatment – and all this with almost no limits in terms of throughput rate.</p>
<p class="Informationbildmaterial">In the first stage, the ZE65 BluePower twin-screw extruder degasses the starting material and removes any adhering odorous substances. This is particularly important when recycling post-consumer waste. Odour minimization can be intensified by using water, nitrogen or even carbon dioxide as entrainer for degassing, which is easily possible thanks to the wide range of metering and degassing options offered by KraussMaffei's twin-screw extruders. “In addition, the first twin-screw extruder ensures optimum homogenization of the input material that is often characterized by rather inhomogeneous quality,” says Carl-Philip Poepel highlighting a decisive benefit of the new machine combination. Via a melt pipe, the melt is conveyed into the second twin-screw extruder where the actual compounding process takes place. “Filling, reinforcing, pigmenting and incorporation of additives – the twin-screw extruder is designed for any given process task. This is why our extruders are equipped with all auxiliary units for metering pellets, powder, fibres and liquids,” adds Poepel. It goes without saying that KraussMaffei's twin-screw extruders are provided with gravimetric metering systems for various media as well as with the appropriate downstream equipment such as fine filters, pumps and pelletizing unit from BKG<sup>®</sup>-Systems from the Nordson Corporation.</p>
<p class="Informationbildmaterial"><b>Proprietary cutter-compactor unit<br /> </b>Another new feature of the Edelweiss line is the cutter-compactor unit, which KraussMaffei has recently integrated into its portfolio. While rigid fractions with an apparent density of over 0.3 kg/l can be easily fed directly into the first twin-screw extruder, particularly light and fluffy material fractions need to be prepared for further processing. The new cutter-compactor unit is the ideal solution for these light fractions, such as fibre and film scrap with high input moisture contents of up to 10%.  In the cutter-compactor, the material fraction is first dehumidified, compacted and homogenized before it is transferred into the ZE 65 BluePower extruder.</p>
<p class="Informationbildmaterial">In contrast to known concepts that have been available on the market so far, the new cutter-compactor unit is operated offline and the agglomerate material produced is discharged onto a belt weigher. “This enables gravimetric metering with an accuracy of 99.8 %,” says Poepel to emphasize the decisive difference to volumetric metering used up to now. Metering variations that tend to occur with light fractions are thus excluded. With this solution, all post-consumer LDPE, HDPE, PP or PS fractions can now be easily processed into high-quality recompounds and used as a substitute for new material in both injection moulding and extrusion applications.</p>
<p class="Informationbildmaterial"><b>Turnkey module for recycling post-consumer waste<br /> </b>Last but not least, the EdelweissCompounding line installed in the R&amp;D centre is completely integrated into a turnkey module. The essential benefits for the owner are easy installation without any preparation, rapid set-up and start-up and well as flexible use. The new turnkey module can be installed in any hall. Neither different levels of installation nor a special hall construction are required, as the module of well-conceived design contains all elements required for recompounding. When delivered, the line only needs to be connected to the local power, water and compressed air supply and production can be started immediately. In the event of relocation, the module can be transported as a whole and is immediately ready for production without any changes being required.</p>

  ["htmlcontent"] => string(2920) "<p>(Hanover, April 28, 2020) Owing to the current situation, there is a massive demand for personal protective equipment all over the world. The KraussMaffei extrusion division at the Hannover site has responded promptly to the shortage of PPE, venturing into the production of reusable facial visors. These visors are designed to complement the protective equipment of medical and healthcare professionals as well as of persons working in jobs with a high number of interpersonal contacts. The essential visor component is a stable, transparent film that can be disinfected with common disinfectants, is impermeable to droplets and keeps hands away from the face. So far, KraussMaffei has supplied its face visors several hospitals in Hannover.</p>
<p><strong>Fast and unbureaucratic help</strong><br /><br />"Owing to the critical shortage of PPE, we – just like many other companies and individuals – feel an urgent need to help. In order to meet the increasing demand, we spontaneously decided to supply regional hospitals, retirement homes or nursing services with protective face visors. At the moment, three of our staff members are released from their usual job and engaged in visor production. They produce approx. 120 visors per week, around the clock. Our 3D printers are continuously used for visor holder printing, even on weekends," says Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment of the KraussMaffei Group. "In our R&amp;D center, where extrusion tests are performed under realistic production conditions, we have managed to produce transparent film for the visors on the basis of our extensive know-how in this field." Matthias Sieverding is extremely satisfied with the strong commitment of the KraussMaffei staff.</p>
<p><strong>Simple protection against droplet infection</strong></p>
<p>The visors are composed of five components: a rigid plastic holder produced on a 3D printer, a rubber strap to secure the visor to the head, a transparent film and two screws designed to attach the film to the holder. Facial visors can certainly not replace a face mask that has to be worn additionally, but they protect the eyes in particular, through which pathogens can also enter the body by airborne infection. The visor is exchangeable and can be cleaned with hot water and disinfected using standard disinfectant spray solutions.<br /><br />"Visors produced by KraussMaffei are not certified. However, we do not intend to supply bulk buyers, but rather small next-door institutions, which are in desperate need of masks, but are currently finding it difficult to get them," says Matthias Sieverding. "As long as there is a need for facial visors and our effort remains within reasonable limits, we at KraussMaffei will continue producing them."</p>

<p>"KraussMaffei supports creative players in compounding and other sectors with technologies beyond classic plastics processing. With the compounding system on our K exhibition stand, we will be demonstrating new possibilities for condition monitoring, predictive maintenance and inline quality monitoring," explains Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology segment of the KraussMaffei Group. "In operation, we use a ZE twin-screw extruder 28 BluePower to upcycle a bucket into a premium quality compound which is used to manufacture an A-pillar trim," Sieverding continues.</p>
<h3>Four new powerful ZE BluePower compounder extruders</h3>
<p>The ZE BluePower high-performance compounder series has long been established on the market. The series, which has been in operation for many different compounding tasks since 2013, will be extended in time for the K by four large models with performances over 2,500 kg/h. Like all models of this series, the new sizes ZE 98 – ZE 166 BluePower feature an ideal combination of large free volume and high specific torque. The flexible configuration options of screws and barrels constitute further advantages. 4 and 6 D-long barrel elements with corresponding equipment for additional metering, degassing and recording measuring data make practically all requirement optimally feasible. The most compact model in the series is the ZE 28 Blue Power labratory extruder, which was introduced three years ago and is one of the highlights on the exhibition booth this year.</p>
<h3>Colored plastic compounds with high coloring precision</h3>
<p>Liquid Color Compounding is the pioneering process for all master batch manufacturers, who need to respond flexibly to market requirements. Because the liquid colors are metered directly in the extruder, there is no need for the conventional intermediate step of manufacturing a monoconcentrate, making the process especially economical and suitable even for very small volumes and special colors. Even converting from dark to light is possible without any problem thanks to the self-cleaning effect of the twin-screw extruder. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to experience this live. At the press of a button, nine different colors can be implemented with a PP masterbatch charged with talc.</p>
<h3>Consistent melt quality</h3>
<p>Equally impressive as the direct production of different color compounds is the fully automatic monitoring of the melt. The spectral-photometric inline system uses high-resolution glass fiber sensors to measure the light reflected by the melt during the process, then compares this with the defined target value to detect even the very slightest difference in brightness or color in real time. The benefits: no need for sampling, no loss of material and real time results. The system thus makes an enormous contribution to minimizing scrap and improving the efficiency of the system.</p>
<h3>Condition monitoring</h3>
<p>Another feature of the ZE 28 BluePower is that it has all the sensors needed to collect, record and process production data time-synchronously. Pressures, temperatures, rotational speeds, volume flows of all upstream and downstream components, as well as metering unit and pelletizer are integrated together with the extruder in the overall system control. KraussMaffei, the world's only provider of ready-to-use system solutions for injection molding, extrusion and reaction process technology (IMM, EXT, RPM), is now consolidating all business divisions and its previous brands KraussMaffei, KraussMaffei Berstorff and Netstal within a single, unified brand: KraussMaffei.</p>
<p>This repositioning is in line with the "Compass" corporate strategy, which has already brought about fundamental changes with the launch of the Digital &amp; Service Solutions (DSS) business unit. For Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei, bringing the brands together is a reflection of the company's identity: "KraussMaffei is a technological pioneer in the plastics industry, which supplies its customers across all industries with innovative and customised solutions – in line with our new motto: Pioneering Plastics."<br />As part of the repositioning, all subsidiaries and locations will operate under the name "KraussMaffei" from now on. Netstal-Maschinen AG (Näfels/Switzerland) will be known as "KraussMaffei High Performance AG". Its high-performance injection molding machinery will be integrated into the KraussMaffei portfolio under the established Netstal product brand, which means the Netstal name will still appear on the machinery itself. The KraussMaffei Berstorff brand which was used for Extrusion technology will be integrated in "KraussMaffei". KraussMaffei Berstorff GmbH (Hanover/Germany) will now be known as "KraussMaffei Extrusion GmbH". Visual evidence of the restructuring can be seen in a new corporate design throughout the company, which will be rolled out to a wider audience during K 2019.</p>
<p>The common appearance supports the further integration of the Injection Molding, Extrusion and Reaction Process Machinery divisions, which already work hand in hand for many applications (e.g. lightweight construction). This means that customers can select the solution that best suits them from the whole technology portfolio via their respective contact person. The areas of Automation and Digitalisation, the latter now represented by the DSS division, have long been developing innovative solutions across technologies.</p>
<p>The new "Pioneering Plastics" claim represents the pioneering spirit that has shaped the company and its locations and brands since it was founded in 1838. At a time when the public is commenting negatively on plastics, KraussMaffei has deliberately formulated this claim as a key performance promise. This is also the reason why KraussMaffei is committed to making a contribution to the development of a circular economy with new products and services. As a pioneer in the recycling, upcycling and recompounding of plastics, KraussMaffei has invested over three decades in the research and development of recycling, enabling its customers to enter a circular plastics economy.</p>
<p>Guests can see this in action at the K trade fair (hall 15, booth C24 – C27), where a polypropylene bucket will be recycled into a car's B-pillar. Polymore, the new B2B online marketplace for the purchase and sale of compounds, masterbatches, recycled material and post-industrial waste in Europe, is another example of sustainability.</p>

For more than three decades, the company has been preoccupied with recycling in research and development and acknowledges this strategic focus also at this year's K trade fair. (Hall 15, Booth C24).</p>
<h3>A bucket becomes an A-pillar—thanks to circular economy</h3>
<p>Packaging products fulfill their duty quickly. So, why not use them as raw material for new high-tech articles—in the automotive industry, for example? At K 2019, KraussMaffei is demonstrating how a bucket turns into a premium-quality panel of an A-pillar with over-molded fabric surface. A ZE 28 BluePower twin-screw extruder makes this possible by upcycling the material.<br />Under the keyword of the circular economy, KraussMaffei is linking its EXT (Extrusion), IMM (Injection Molding Machinery) and DSS (Digital &amp; Service Solutions) business units at the trade fair. The GX 1100 injection molding machine with a clamping force of 11,000 kN, newly presented at the K trade show, produces buckets made of polypropylene, which are then shredded externally and fed back into the material circuit as regrind. Under the EdelweissCompounding brand, a ZE 28 BluePower twin-screw extruder produces technically enhanced recompound from it. For this purpose, pigments and a 20-percent proportion of talc are added to the polypropylene flakes. After underwater pelletizing and drying, the recompound is again available at high quality and with property patterns adapted to the following injection molding application. A material feeder conveys the polypropylene to the all-electric PX 320 injection molding machine, and then the polypropylene is formed in the cavity into a panel for an A-pillar. The component surface forms an over-molded layer of fabric.</p>
<h3>KraussMaffei as enabler of circular economy</h3>
<p>Edelweiss-Compounding is intended to make on-site compounding more attractive to recycling companies and plastics manufacturers. KraussMaffei is the only company in the market that covers most of the plastic value chain. "We view ourselves as enablers of circular economy for our customers so that they can be successful as part of this economy," explains Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment at KraussMaffei. The Extrusion business area produces raw materials and semifinished products; Injection Molding Machinery—in combination with the respective automation—enables efficient production of high-tech components before extrusion takes its turn again to recycle these products.</p>
<h3>Digital backtracking throughout the entire circuit</h3>
<p>Both in extrusion and injection molding, the third participating business unit at the K trade show is making its entry: Digital Service &amp; Solutions with products such as APC Plus (Adaptive Process Control) and DataXplorer. APC Plus monitors the injection molding process and adapts it continuously to balance interference factors such as fluctuations between batches and in climate or changing recompound percentages. In injection molding, this is done via the material database stored in the machine and the online analysis of the melt viscosity and also by adjusting the holding pressure changeover point and the holding pressure level even within the same cycle. In extrusion, the melt temperature, pressure and screw speed are recorded.</p>
<p>The DataXplorer makes a detailed view of the depth of the process possible because it is capable of storing up to 500 signals every 5 milliseconds as graphs—for instance, signals from the machine or the mold.<br />All data resulting from this is routed to the new data system, which is being introduced at K 2019. It is a central data collection point for all components within a production cell, which includes peripherals and automation. The customer can collect all information required for production monitoring and production flow control. Data export (for instance, to MES or ERP systems) is easy and can be implemented in a modular structure. Digital services help ensure the quality of production and products, prevent rejects, and thus also contribute to resource-conserving production.</p>
<h3>Leading role in the implementation of circular economy</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei's increased involvement in the field of circular economy is motivated by ecology and developments in society. "KraussMaffei is aware of its responsibility and, as one of the world market leaders, wants to occupy a leading role in the areas of recycling, upcycling and recompounding of plastics," declares Sieverding. Therefore, KraussMaffei is enhancing its joint effort with partners and customers to develop new business units regarding the reuse of plastics.</p>"

For the third time in a row, these twin-screw extruders will be among the highlights showcased at K 2019 in Düsseldorf from October 16 to 23. While the medium-size models were introduced six years ago, followed by the laboratory machine three years later, the time has come for the launch of the large-size version. The four big compounding extruder variants for throughput rates of 2,500 kg/h and more will be available immediately after the end of the exhibition. As the ZE BluePower series now comprises tailored extruders for any type of application and offers at the same time enormous process-engineering benefits, it will replace all previous twin-screw extruder series.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock">"Since its market launch in 2013, the ZE BluePower has gained a strong foothold in the market for a wide range of compounding tasks as well as for reaction and degassing applications. This series stands out for unparalleled output rates, short set-up times and maximum cost effectiveness," says Matthias Sieverding, President of the Extrusion Technology Segment at KraussMaffei. "The new series is designed for large national and international compounding companies with high production capacities where maximum reliability in 24/7 operation is a must," continues Sieverding.</p>
<p><b>ZE BluePower twin-screw extruders offer a wide range of potential applications</b></p>
<p class="Flieundblock">The combination of large free volume and high specific torque enables universal application of the ZE BluePower for compounding engineering plastics and even highly filled formulations. Thanks to the 1.65 OD/ID diameter ratio, the free volume is increased by 27 % as compared to the previous ZE UT extruder series. In addition, the ZE BluePower features a 36 % higher torque density of 16 Nm/cm3. This high-performance twin-screw extruder is tailored for any application – from the production of compounds, expanded sheets, biaxially oriented film and sheets up to the processing of recycled material.<b> <br /></b></p>
<p class="Flieundblock"><b>Continuous scale-up of smaller machine sizes</b></p>
<p class="Flieundblock">From a process-engineering point of view, the four large extruder variants 98, 122, 142 and 166 are absolutely identical with the smaller sister models. This ensures consistent scale up, which is of particular importance for the development and processing of new formulations. The larger extruders also offer the same screw and barrel modularity. A wide range of 4D and 6D barrel sections and various side feeder and degassing units are available for the extruder configuration. Exchangeable oval liners provide a cost-effective alternative for extremely wear-intensive processes. However, minor design modifications were implemented by KraussMaffei to allow for the size of the new extruders. The housing elements are connected by means of screw unions instead of clamping flanges, cartridge heaters are replaced by ceramic heaters and the shape was slightly changed.</p>
<p class="Flieundblock">Extensive information on the new series will be available at the KraussMaffei booth B 27 in hall 15 during the K 19 exhibition. "The results obtained in first trials using a high-filled polypropylene formulation with 50 % of an only 1 μm fine talc were perfectly in line with our expectations and furnished ample proof of the outstanding performance of this innovative and trend-setting machine concept," says Matthias Sieverding.</p>"

<h3>DataXplorer for all technologies</h3>
<p>Today, KraussMaffei already commands innovative tools such as the DataXplorer, which stores up to 500 signals per second as continuous curves, shedding light on processes in their entire depth. These signals can originate from the most diverse sources: from the machine itself (such as temperatures and positions of the clamping unit or the screw), from the mold (e.g. cavity pressure), or from peripherals, such as a milling cell that post-produces lightweight components from thermoset. <h3>Condition Monitoring – identifying errors before they occur</h3>
<p>Using alarm and threshold values, the machine operator can be informed of relevant deviations in product parameters in a timely manner—by means of the dashboard in the master control station or by smartphone. Predictive Maintenance, or condition-based monitoring, then prevents unexpected production failures as a result of wear and tear on components. Similarly, rejection rates—such as those caused by shot weight deviations—drop.</p>

<p>At the beginning of June 2019, the company signed a rental contract with committee reservation with the company VGP, a leading project developer for commercial real estate, thus firing the starting shot for the approximately 55,000 m<sup>2</sup> production hall and office complex.</p>
<p>Work for the plant on the 80,000 m<sup>2</sup> area in the Laatzen / Rethen Ost business park should be completed by the end of 2022. The new location will have a state-of-the-art TechCenter, production and office facilities, and provide space for up to 750 employees</p>
<p><b>Clear commitment to the Hanover location for the KraussMaffei Group</b></p>
<p>"We are delighted that, with this new building project, we have created the basis for further growth. More than twenty state-of-the-art machines ranging from a small laboratory system through to a production machine will be available. There will also be special emphasis on the demonstration of technology for processing plastic waste to create new materials for use.</p>

<p>In the new building complex, KraussMaffei Berstorff will consistently align its production in accordance with the principles of Industry 4.0. <p>The new ZE GP Agile extruder generation is equipped with screw elements and shafts made of special material, enabling compounders to achieve maximum throughput rates. In addition, the innovative series scores with an extended range of 4 and 6D barrel housings to precisely tailor the processing section to specific customer requirements. All barrel housings are characterized by precise temperature control. While cooling is based on cooling water injection, high-performance electric cartridge heaters are used for direct and rapid heating. The C-clamp flange system facilitates assembly and disassembly of the barrel housings and substantially reduces set-up times during barrel housing changes.</p>
<p>The standard equipment comprises the sturdy base frame designed to accommodate the temperature control units and the oil lubrication system. It enables in-process detection of material defects and transmits a warning signal to the operator and the control system. Recipe-controlled positioning combined with automatic height adjustment of the test system ensures uncompromising flexibility and excellent precision.</p>
<p><b>Chimney strip for electrostatic charge dissipation from tires </b></p>
<p>"To reduce the rolling resistance of passenger car and truck tires, tire producers often replace carbon black by silica in their rubber compounds used in tread production. Silica is characterized by high electric resistance and acts as an isolator," says Dr. Gerard Nijman, Head of R&amp;D and Rubber Processing Technology at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "For this reason, a continuous conductive strip (chimney) on carbon black basis is required as additional component in the tread profile to eliminate the electrostatic charge from the tire. The chimney strip has a width of a few millimeters only and avoids electrostatic charging by the contact with the road surface."</p>
<p><b>Color measurement gives constant melt quality</b></p>
<p>The second development for in-line process monitoring is designed to detect instantly any metering errors in order to reduce production scrap and enhance line efficiency. This in-line measuring system is based on color measurement: light is projected into the melt, reflected and then detected by a high-resolution glass fiber sensor. Upon comparison with the previously defined setpoint, any deviation in terms of brightness or color is instantly recognized and indicated. It goes without saying that the color measuring system can be integrated into the overall line control.</p>
<p><b>High production reliability </b></p>
<p>The C-Check system checks the chimney conductivity in-line at variable production speeds. It is designed for non-contact measurement of the electric conductivity between the outside and inside of the tread. The electrode with flexible position charges the strip that is placed on an earthed conveying system. The fully functional chimney strip eliminates the electrostatic charge via an additional grounded electrode. If the electric resistance exceeds the preset value, a signal is transmitted to the operator and recorded by the control system.</p>
<p>The measurement is performed in real time. It can be displayed on a local control panel and additionally transmitted via an appropriate interface. The exceptional functionality of the C-Check system is simply unique on the market.</p>
<p>Thanks to the non-contact monitoring principle, there are no restrictions as far as the use of marking systems is concerned. The system can also be integrated into existing lines.</p>

  ["htmlcontent"] => string(8027) "<p>(Munich, February 7, 2019) From idea to series production-ready fiber composite solutions: At JEC World held from March 12 to 14 in Paris (Hall 6, booth R28), KraussMaffei is highlighting its leading system expertise in developing and implementing series production-ready processes for fiber-reinforced lightweight construction. The focus of the trade show appearance is on new processes and applications that are based on both thermoset and thermoplastic matrix materials. The FiberForm process, pultrusion and unidirectional (UD) tapes are front and center.</p>
<p>The KraussMaffei Group's three technologies, Injection Molding Machinery, Reaction Process Machinery and Extrusion Technology, make it the world's only provider that can cover all three technologies from a single source. "We give our customers advice independent of the process and accompany them along the entire journey, from idea to series production-ready fiber composite solutions. This expertise is what sets us apart, along with our experience and the worldwide references from serial producers. In doing so, we supply solutions along the entire process chain and work closely together with partners from the industry and research communities," states Nicolas Beyl, President of the Reaction Process Machinery Segment at KraussMaffei Group.</p>
<h3>Quantities of over 1 million per year</h3>
<p>How can this system philosophy be converted into series production-ready processes? KraussMaffei highlights the answer with technologies such as the FiberForm process. Intelligent automation solutions and heating technology optimized for the injection molding process</p>
<p>ensure cycle times from below 60 seconds. For the first time at JEC, a continuous-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic series-produced lightweight component with a unit quantity of over 1 million per year is being exhibited. It is manufactured by forming and back-injecting stable fiber-reinforced composites, known as organo sheets. The organo sheet, which is only 0.5 mm thick, ensures the required stiffness with a low dead weight and makes a major contribution to weight savings (up to 4 kg/vehicle). The injection molding process helps the dimensional compliance of the geometry and is responsible for the additional component functions.</p>
<p>An additional sample component from a research project with the Dresden University of Technology demonstrates the use of recycled materials such as recycled carbon fibers and remanufactured compounds. In another groundbreaking innovation, the injection molding production technology called foam molding was implemented on a complex geometry. This technology makes it possible to produce thermoplastic sandwich structures with fiber-reinforced cover layers in a one-shot process.</p>
<p>The third application, a successful combination of FiberForm and swivel plate technology for multi-component injection molding, is a center armrest for the automotive interior. It will be on display in the Planet Area Automotive at JEC. "This combination can be used to create completely new visual and haptic component features for thermoplastic composites in a single process. The TPE component gives the functional and visible parts of the center armrest an outstandingly soft and visually appealing surface," explains Dr. Mesut Cetin, Group Product Manager at KraussMaffei Automation. In turn, the use of the composite sheet increases the rigidity and strength of the component. This enables the reinforcement ribs and the component itself to be designed with thinner walls, cutting weight by approximately 20 percent and cutting costs by around 15 percent.</p>
<h3>New standards for pultrusion with iPul</h3>
<p>Another highlight at the KraussMaffei booth is the presentation of the iPul technology from KraussMaffei Reaction Process Machinery. With the system solution launched on the market in 2017, the company has set new standards in pultrusion, a continuous process for fiber-reinforced profiles and round bars. The iPul system faster production speed compared to usual open bath processes.</p>
<p>"Our iPul system is exactly what the times demand. The new technology is attracting massive interest in the construction industry, for example for window profiles or rebar in concrete, or in wind power. In this field, we recently got a series order for a large project in Russia," confirms Philipp Zimmermann, Head of the Composites/Surfaces Business Unit at KraussMaffei. However, the automotive industry offers a great deal of potential, as does the energy and power supply sector. "In this field, we've launched two forward-looking development projects with Tier1 suppliers and the Fraunhofer IGCV. Here, pultrusion's true strength is on display: cost-effective production of fiber composite profiles with a low barrier to entry in terms of investment in systems and tooling. This makes lightweight construction as attractive as can be," states Zimmermann confidently.</p>
<p>The new iPul series is KraussMaffei's first bold foray into the field of complete turnkey systems where the systems, process and mold technology are from a single source. The series features central control of important process parameters such as the output capacity and draw-off speed. A further benefit of iPul is the great flexibility and precision of the systems. The injection box and metering technology with a newly developed mixing head make it possible to process completely different resins, including even polyurethane systems.</p>
<h3>First-class surfaces for large components</h3>
<p>The long-fiber injection process is KraussMaffei's established series system solution for fiber-reinforced lightweight construction. "The long-fiber injection process is ideal for large-format, complex and simultaneously thin-walled parts. Typical end applications include finishers for trucks, commercial vehicles and agricultural machines. Here, we continue to see incredible potential in the market, particularly in China and the US," says Zimmermann. The high degree of automation ensures short cycle times. The high fiber volume content of up to 50 percent guarantees high component stability and low weight at the same time. LFI components feature high temperature stability and excellent impact strength and have surfaces that can be used directly off-mold. At JEC, KraussMaffei is presenting a series component for a tractor side cover.</p>
<h3>Clever combination of UD tapes and FiberForm</h3>
<p>Extrusion specialists KraussMaffei Berstorff have raised their game even further in the FiberForm process with UD tapes. UD tapes feature unidirectional reinforcement fibers made of materials such as glass or carbon that are embedded in a thermoplastic matrix. "UD tapes are the ideal basis for organo sheets for the FiberForm process. We can't wait to show customers our rock-solid system expertise at JEC. We're taking our expertise from extrusion and thermoplastic lightweight construction and bundling it with injection molding technology to develop new and ingenious solutions in lightweight construction," states Hilmar Heithorst, Product Manager at KraussMaffei Berstorff.</p>
<p>Another important application for UD tapes is in thermoplastic composite pipes (TCP). A TCP system wraps UD tapes around plastic pipes and then melts the layers. This composite material and the orientation of the longitudinal fibers gives them incredible pressure resistance and makes them exceptionally well suited for the requirements of the oil and gas industry.</p>
<p>In developing the UD tape technologies, KraussMaffei is working hand-in-hand with the Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing (PAZ) in Schkopau, Germany. Since 2017, the Center has had a new UD tape system, the world's largest melt-impregnation plant. The UD tape system achieves an impressive manufacturing speed of up to 20 meters per minute at processing temperatures up to 350°C</p>

The listing occurred through the transfer of ChemChina's stake in KraussMaffei to ChemChina's majority owned subsidiary THY (Qingdao Tianhua Institute of Chemistry Engineering), which is listed on the Shanghai stock exchange. In addition, THY has taken over ChemChina's production site in Sanming, China. New injection molding machines for the Chinese market will be manufactured at this site in the future. Dr. Frank Stieler and Dr. Harald Nippel, CEO and CFO of KraussMaffei, will lead the new integrated mechanical engineering company. The combined business will operate under the brand KraussMaffei. KraussMaffei generates more than 80 percent of the approximately 1.5 bn Euro revenue of the total entity. "We are very happy – something big is being created! We now have the opportunity to drive our growth even faster and better. The listing provides us with access to the Chinese capital market. This step will significantly strengthen us in China as well as globally," said Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of KraussMaffei. <h3>KraussMaffei is seeking to accelerate growth</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei is a world leading supplier of machinery and systems for producing and processing plastics and rubber. The access to the Chinese capital market enables KraussMaffei to further accelerate its growth. The access to new financial resources is to contribute to the strategy "Compass". "We are expanding our product portfolio with new machinery series for volume markets and are broadening our digital services business. We are rapidly advancing local business models, especially in China," explains Stieler. With the strategy "Compass", KraussMaffei is focusing on expanding its business models, especially in the area of digital services. In July 2018, the company launched the new Digital Service Solutions business unit for this purpose.</p>
<p>KraussMaffei intends to significantly expand its presence in China. KraussMaffei will take on the operational responsibility for the integrated production site in Sanming, China. The site will produce newly developed injection molding machinery for the local Chinese market for KraussMaffei. Due to the rising demand for such products with high quality standards, KraussMaffei is expecting an annual sales growth of over 20 percent (CAGR) in China in the coming years.</p>
<p>The existing business of THY will be continued. THY is a leading design institute and specialty engineering company for components required in chemical plant construction.</p>
<h3>Employee representatives and IG Metall welcome the opportunities of capital market access in China</h3>
<p>KraussMaffei will continue to lead its business from the company headquarters in Munich, Germany. The German codetermination rights, the legal status of the KraussMaffei Group GmbH as well as employee and union agreements remain unchanged. The rights to technologies also remain bundled in Germany. The employee representatives and IG Metall welcome this step to the capital market. "We are convinced of the growth opportunities offered by the access to the Chinese capital market. The transaction is a positive development for KraussMaffei and offers opportunities to secure and create jobs also in Germany," says Susanne Meyer, Deputy Chairwomen of the works council of KraussMaffei. The IG Metall also welcomes this development. "ChemChina remains a reliable partner and as promised is sticking to its plans for KraussMaffei. <h3>ChemChina remains majority shareholder of THY</h3>
<p>Since April 2016, ChemChina, the leading Chinese chemicals company, is majority owner of KraussMaffei. ChemChina remains majority shareholder of KraussMaffei via THY and will continue to support the future growth of the company. ChemChina's shares in THY are subject to a holding period of three years.</p>

This enables perfect integration of advanced compounding equipment with industry 4.0 technologies.</p>
<h3>Process-data acquisition provides full control at all times</h3>
<p>In order to meet the ever increasing demand for data acquisition and analysis, KraussMaffei Berstorff has developed two new systems, which are now available as options for ZE BluePower extruders. The first of these developments is designed to synchronously collect all production data of a compounding line. It is composed of perfectly tuned hardware and software components for acquisition, recording, evaluation and further processing of all process and measured values. Data analysis provides a sound basis for process optimization, in particular when it comes to process modifications or planned quality improvements.</p>
<p>Thanks to its modular design and easy configuration, the system can be adapted to a wide range of different applications, scaled in size and is suited for interface-independent operation. All interfaces can be integrated into an overall system that collects and visualizes the desired process data. Pressure, temperature, speed and volume flow values of all upstream and downstream components – e.g. metering systems, melt filters, melt pumps and pelletizing systems – as well as the extruder parameters are combined in a single system.</p>
<h3>Color measurement gives constant melt quality</h3>
<p>The second development for in-line process monitoring is designed to detect instantly any metering errors in order to reduce production scrap and enhance line efficiency. This in-line measuring system is based on color measurement: light is projected into the melt, reflected and then detected by a high-resolution glass fiber sensor. Upon comparison with the previously defined setpoint, any deviation in terms of brightness or color is instantly recognized and indicated. It goes without saying that the color measuring system can be integrated into the overall line control.</p>
<h3>Highly profitable compounding extruder</h3>
<p>The ZE BluePower twin-screw extruder series is characterized by high energy efficiency, uncompromising safety at work, simple use and low maintenance efforts. It perfectly meets the ever increasing requirements of compound processors in terms of flexibility and cost effectiveness. Thanks to the unique interaction between the 1.65 OD/ID diameter ratio and the specific torque of up to 16 Nm, volume- and throughput-limited formulations can be compounded on a single machine. The special highlights of the ZE BluePower extruders are oval liners, improved side feeders and degassing units as well as the optional energy management tool. <h3>Birusa: Automated solution for coextruded polystyrene sheets</h3>
<p>Birusa, one of the leading Russian manufacturers of refrigerators, is modernizing its production in Krasnoyarsk. To achieve this, the company has ordered a complete system for the production of coextruded polystyrene sheets from KraussMaffei Berstorff. The highlight of this 1000 mm sheet system is the automatic thickness adjustment of the sheets by press of a button during production. "This system gives us enormous advantages, such as high production flexibility, reduction of changeover times and labor costs and reduction of the amount of waste," Maxim Komendantov, Head of Process Engineering at Birusa, explains proudly. "In light of harsh market conditions and in order to improve our competitiveness, we decided in favor of KraussMaffei Berstorff because we are sure to obtain the most efficient solution for modernization in this way," adds Alexander Schurinov, Technical Manager at Birusa.</p>
<h3>Sibur: PO and PP pipe production with lab system</h3>
<p>Sibur, one of the largest raw material manufacturers in Russia, has ordered from KraussMaffei Berstorff a lab system for the production of premium quality PO pipes in its Polyolefin Application Development Center. The line is primarily intended for studying and further developing the process behavior of PO and PP formulations as well as the properties of the end products—within the plants owned by Sibur. Sibur produces single-layer HDPE, PP-R and PP-B pipes in the diameter range from 32 to 110 mm using the KME 38-30 B/R single-screw extruder and the KM RKW 32-110 tube die. The commissioning in the Polyolefin Application Development Center in Skolkovo is planned for early 2019.</p>
<h3>Technonikol: Coextrusion line for drainage systems in the new plant</h3>
<p>Technonikol, one of the leading manufacturers of premium quality construction materials, is expanding its product line using KraussMaffei Berstorff systems due to the good reputation earned by KraussMaffei for systems of proven value and high quality. "On a complete high-performance coextrusion line, two different profile types are manufactured, a rainwater pipe and a gutter strip," explains Vadim Schwarz, Regional Sales Manager for Russia at KraussMaffei Berstorff. "The twin-screw extruders from KraussMaffei Berstorff guarantee optimum melt quality for our application and thus a premium finished product," seconds Andrey Sinyakov, Project Manager of Technonikol. "In addition, the attractive price/performance ratio was a crucial point in the decision," concludes Sinyakov. The production start of the system is planned for spring 2019.</p>
<h3>Nordpipe: Follow-up order for modernizing the PO pipe production</h3>
<p>"AO Nordpipe, one of the leading pipe manufacturers and active in St. Petersburg for more than ten years with great success, believes in our innovative ability and is thus investing in one more line for the production of three-layer PE pipes," says Schwarz. In addition to classic plastics machinery construction this new strategy aims at intensifying and accelerating the development of digital services and products, as well as new business models. To this end, the new Digital Service Solutions business unit was established in July, and is expected to make a substantial contribution to the Group's sales in the future. The new strategy is initially designed for a period of five years until 2023.</p>
<p>The KraussMaffei Group is thus continuing its growth course. The share of digital services and products, as well as new services such as the "Rent It" machine rental model, will be steadily increased in the coming years. For this purpose the new business unit Digital Service Solutions was established in July. "We are positioning KraussMaffei as a company that is consistently focusing on customer needs in the age of digitization. In the coming years, we will significantly expand our business model and add digital excellence to our high level of mechanical expertise. This means that in future we will not only sell our customers high-quality machines as usual, but also create added value around the machine. We want to provide our customers with excellent service around the globe and around the clock – and make them attractive offers," explains Dr. Frank Stieler, CEO of the KraussMaffei Group.</p>
<h3>Positive business development in 2018</h3>
<p>A positive development is anticipated for the current financial year. In the first three quarters, incoming orders amounted to 1.05 billion euros. This corresponds to an increase of 2.5 percent compared with the same period in the previous year. Sales amounted to 973 million euros. This corresponds to an increase in sales of 15 million euros or 1.6 percent.</p>
<p>The number of employees has also increased significantly. Today, the Group employs almost 5,500 people (including apprentices) – a record number. Since the end of 2016 alone, 618 new jobs have been created worldwide. This means a 13 percent increase in the number of employees within just under two years. "I am particularly pleased that we are currently qualifying 310 apprentices for their future professional careers - more than ever before," says Dr. Stieler.</p>
<h3>Listing procedure on the Shanghai Stock Exchange nearing completion</h3>
<p>The planned listing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange is due to be approved this year. The Chinese authorities are currently reviewing the application from KraussMaffei's parent company China National Chemical Corporation. CEO Stieler: "The listing process is going according to plan. We expect the China Securities Regulatory Commission to give the green light in the coming weeks."</p>"

Its existing claim to build the best machinery for plastics processing is now being supplemented with a wide variety of digital offers in the areas of service, new business models and products. Installing its new "Digital Service Solutions" (DSS) business unit, the KraussMaffei Group is pushing ahead with the digitalization of the company with great impact.</p>
<h3>Three strong pillars</h3>
<p>"We firmly believe that the combination of mechanical excellence and service excellence will make the difference in our market in the future. Our worldwide service will be the very reason why customers decide in favor of KraussMaffei. Our goal is to create measurable added value for our customers," explains Nadine Despineux, who has been heading the new DSS business area since July of this year. "Customer Care", "Customer Value" and "Digital Solutions" make up the three strong pillars of DSS which will also be on display at Fakuma.</p>
<h3>Global customer service – The new e-service platform</h3>
<p>Customer Care includes the present conventional service as well as future service, which must be seamless both chronologically and in terms of content: 360°, 365 days a year. The best example is the e-service platform presented in Friedrichshafen, which already offers a wide variety of service functions to our customers today. Among these are access to machine-specific documents, the 3D spare parts finder with direct purchase order trigger or the integrated ticket system. In short, the customer benefits from an additional safeguard of production efficiency. This service can be accessed at any time, from any location.</p>
<p>The new e-service platform was first presented as a test version at the K 2016 trade show. "Since then, we have been specifically gathering customer feedback. We have developed the desired new features quickly and with agility, and then we have implemented them so that already last year we could move on to field testing and win our first customers for the platform," says Despineux. For fast implementation, the initial focus has been on what is called the "speedboat variant" for the Netstal products. Now, the platform is to be expanded to cover all products of the KraussMaffei Group—following the motto of "Think big—act small &amp; fast."</p>
<h3>New Rent-it and Gindumac business models</h3>
<p>Customer Value includes new business models such as "Rent it – don't buy it," introduced in 2017, and the Gindumac platform for used machinery, in which KraussMaffei holds a stake. They provide the answer to one of the most pressing challenges of plastic processors. The purchase of a machine is an expensive investment especially for small and mid-size injection molding companies (and the long service life of the KraussMaffei machine is rather a competitive disadvantage here). On the other hand, companies that rent flexible production capacity tie up only a little capital and always stay at the technological forefront. The first wave of customers has already deliberately decided in favor of this model.</p>
<p>However, presenting such a model in a way as commercially attractive as KraussMaffei does it is possible only if the lessor is capable of taking back a large number of used machines after the lease expires. This is why KraussMaffei decided earlier this year to invest in Gindumac, a startup company. The startup operates a globally oriented Internet platform for used machinery. The platform connects all quotations and interested parties with each other globally. The advantages of this business model, in turn, have a positive effect on the calculation of leasing rates.</p>
<h3>AnalytiX – The injection molding machine for your pocket</h3>
<p>Under the keyword of Digital Customer Solutions, APC Plus can be viewed at Fakuma as well as the DataXplorer and AnalytiX tools and interfaces. DataXplorer is the name of an analytical tool for recording, storing and evaluating up to 500 signals at a resolution of 5 ms. These can be standard signals of the machine or special signals such as the mold cavity pressure. This provides a fascinating view, rich in detail, of systems and processes that can be used for improving production efficiency or for Condition Monitoring.</p>
<p>AnalytiX is an evaluation tool for the customer to keep its machines in view, anytime and anywhere, and benefit from automated evaluations of processes and machine statuses. Using intelligent key figures for stability and productivity, the user can identify negative trends or performance deviations of individual machines at one glance. "Our customers often do not wish for 'Big Data' but rather for a solution allowing them to monitor their injection molding machine in production using simple key figures while having breakfast—an injection molding machine for their pocket, so to speak. And we are offering this in the form of AnalytiX," explains Despineux. Like the e-service platform, AnalytiX was developed as a "speedboat" for the Netstal products and it is now being consistently and comprehensively extended to cover all KraussMaffei products.</p>
<h3>New location for DSS in Munich's Neuaubing district</h3>
<p>The new Digital Service Solutions business unit will move to a new location in Munich's Neuaubing district in February 2019. There, currently space is being created for up to 50 employees in a creative environment in which agile working methods will be the order of the day. "Not only is this highly attractive for recruiting new talent in the areas of business architects, product owners or data analysts, but it also provides the new business unit with a high impact capability in the market," says Despineux.</p>"

<h3 class="zwischenheadline">Three-layer system for SILENTA 3A production</h3>
<p class="Flieundblock" align="left">The latest investment includes another system that produces three-layer sewer pipes made of Polypropylene. This piping system is sold under the brand name SILENTA 3A. With its noise insulating properties it is primarily used as domestic drainage pipes in multi-story buildings.</p>
